Our Way

The Osky Writes Way

There aren't any hard and fast rules, but there is a Write Club way that we like to do things.

1. We talk about Write Club.

The first rule of Write Club is that you talk about Write Club! We all get busy and it's easy to forget or miss meetings. But when you talk about Write Club with friends, families, and co-workers, it keeps Write Club at the top of your mind. (And the more you say "I'm a writer!" the more confidence you build!)

2. We have fun.

No matter how serious we take our writing, we also take pleasure in writing and delight in spending time with other writers.

3. We are gracious with feedback.

We offer critique when invited. And we don't take the critique personally.

4. We share when we feel like it.

When we participate in writing prompts, exercises, and activities, you're encouraged to share your thoughts or read what you wrote. But this is never required and you will never be pushed or forced.

5. Write what you want to write.

Want to bring something you've been working on? Not into the writing exercise or inspired by the prompt? You're invited to participate in the group activities, but you're also more than welcome to use the timed writing sessions to work on whatever you want. No judgment here.

6. Leave your inner editor at home.

That pesky voice inside your head commanding you to rewrite a sentence ten times until it's "perfect"—that's your inner editor. Remind them you can edit later!

7. Writing sprints are quiet times.

Please refrain from chatting during timed writing sessions so that everyone can concentrate on their writing. If you finish early, quietly read your work or start writing something else. Feel free to quietly get up and stretch your legs, use the restroom, etc.

8. We are kind to each other. :)

We believe in one another. We encourage and lift up each other. This is a safe place to be yourself and share your struggles with writing (or even life).
